FAQ

How do you design your websites?

We talk to our customers frequently to find out as much as possible to find out what they want the site to look like, what it needs to do, and what they want it to do. Some people have a strong idea of how they would like a site to look, some people have an idea of how they would like a site to feel. We want your website to be designed as you imagined it.

Firstly we will provide you with a questionnaire about your business to find out your basic needs, then arrange a meeting to talk about your requirements in detail. You may already have design brief but it is a good idea to complete the questionnaire as well to make sure that no aspects are overlooked. It may be helpful to look around at other websites and note things that you like a dislike. It is also useful to have a look at your competitor's websites to see what level you are going to be competing on on-line.

We will talk through your options, and see whether one of our products or a bespoke website would suit your business better.

Once we have met with you, we will produce a final design brief and three mock-ups of how your website could look. If this is acceptable we will ask you to choose one design and to sign this off, we will then begin work on the real site. Otherwise we will make amendments and repeat the procedure.

How do you test your websites?

All of our websites are validated to W3C standards, using these tools:

HTML/XHTML Validation Service Provided by W3C
CSS Validation Service Provided by W3C

(or use the 'Validate' link at the bottom of this page).

W3C set the standards that browsers like Firefox, Opera, IE etc, use to decode and display HTML. If websites are coded in a way that is compliant to W3C standards, they should display and function properly across all browsers (provided the browser itself is W3C compliant, MS Internet Explorer is usually the exception).

We systematically test all of our websites in Firefox, Konqueror, Opera, Safari, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer to make sure they function properly and appear as visually similar between the browsers as possible. We also test on both Windows and Linux to check for font issues. This is called Alpha testing.

Once we are satisfied that Alpha testing has been completely successfully we will hand over the website over to you for a testing period of two weeks (Beta testing). We will set-up the the website under a test domain, and pass control over to you. We will then ask you to test the website, and make sure that is is functioning correctly. If amendments are necessary we will carry them out. Then website will then be moved to the live domain and made public. This allows time to foresee any teething problems before the website goes live to the public.

What do your websites cost?

We try to make our websites as affordable as possible. They can either be paid for upfront, or with a 25% deposit upfront and then 11 monthly instalments. If you would like a quote, or to discuss pricing options, please contact us info@blk-cat.com or phone 07599969569.

What does CMS (Content Management System) mean?

A having a Content Management System means that you can log into your website, and edit the content. This works in a similar way to writing a blog, or sending an webmail.

Which web browser do you recommend?

We recommend Mozilla Firefox it is the most user friendly browser we have found. Firefox is also more W3C Compliant that some other browsers. You can get Firefox here.

Firefox can also be customised by the use of extensions. Some extensions we recommend are:

Flashblock - Block unwanted Flash adverts
Adblock Plus - Remove unwanted banner adverts

I am having trouble viewing your website, what should I do?

If you are having trouble viewing any of the pages on the website, try clearing your temporary internet files. If the problem persists please contact support@blk-cat.com or phone 07599969569.
