Bespoke Website Design
Website design - usually refers to the way a website looks and it's layout, rather than how it works.
When we design a bespoke website for a client this process usually consists of:
- Talking to the client to find out:
- exactly who they are and what they do
- if the client already has a brand and what the brand stands for. Any styles associated with the brand and what image the brand promotes
- what the aims of the website are
- what the website is required to do
- what kind of content it is going to contain
- Next the content needs to be broken down into sections or categories. This will form the navigation of the website and the structure.
- Then the functionality that each of these sections must contain needs to be decided upon.
- Taking all of these aspects into account, mock layout(s) can be produced.
- The mock layout(s) are then shown to the client for approval.
- If there are any amendments to be made, the mock up will be revised and then shown to the client for approval.
- Once the client is happy with the mock-up, the web development process can begin.
Structure Design
If the structure of a website is right, that is the navigational links are spilt into logical categories and sub-categories, along with a good page layout it follows that the website will be intuitive to use.
We will talk to you to find out what content your website needs to have, then we can work with you to divide this into sections that will be used to navigate the site. We can also advise of any other sections or functionality that may be needed.
Good Practises
At BLK-CAT we design all of our websites with W3C standards in mind. We test our websites thoroughly to make sure that they are compliant.
It is very important that all the front-end code that defines the layout and style of the page (CSS and XHTML) compiles with W3C standards.
W3C are the body who define how HTML, XHTML and CSS works and introduce new standards (HTML is the language web pages are written in). By making sure that a website is compliant, it helps to ensure that the website will display as uniformly as possible in all browsers, operating systems and devices.
It also makes the code as readable as possible to webcrawlers, which are used by search engines to index pages. This helps with search engine optimization.
These things combined mean your website will be able to be viewed by the greatest possible audience.
Branding
Branding is an essential part of making your website memorable. We can create a website from your existing branding, extend the idea of your brand so it is suitable for the web, or help you design a completely new online brand.
Branding is a big part of the experience, it defines the whole 'feel' associated with a company and gives a sense of security. It is also about individuality. A brand needs to be individual to be remembered.
We believe that it is extremely important that a website is memorable.
There are countless pages on the internet that are crammed with really useful information. Buy many of them look remarkably similar. It is highly frustrating when you want to go back somewhere, you can remember what the information you wanted was about, but all you can remember about the company is that they had a white webpage.
If you choose to let us design you a web page, you can be assued we will design something exciting, relevant and memorable.
